Reader Question: Can I Pay Health Insurance Premiums From My FSA?

Paying Health Insurance Premiums From A Flexible Spending Account

Your employer-sponsored Flexible Spending Account (FSA) allows you to save pretax dollars in an account to cover deductibles, co-pays, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and (often) other health expenses not covered by insurance, such as dental and vision expenses. Unfortunately, a medical FSA cannot pay for health insurance premiums, cosmetic items, cosmetic surgery, controlled substances, or items that improve “general health”, because all expenses must be intended to treat or prevent a specific medical condition.

So the answer is no, you can’t pay for health insurance premiums from your FSA.
